Life, as they say, is stranger than fiction. And the story that unfolded with “Irish” Micky Ward and the brother who trained him does indeed fit that bill. Part drama and part comedy, this bio-pic stars Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale as the boxing brothers. In my humble opinion the real stars of this film are the hairdos of the ladies that play the Eklund sisters. Hair was not hair in the 80’s, unless it was Bonnie Tyler’ed. And these gals are total eclipsing their hearts out. But it is not about the hair now is it?
The backdrop for this extraordinary tale is the town of Lowell, Massachusetts, and the movie is as much about the town of Lowell, as it is about the troubled brothers. So here are the Location details:
Primary Location: Lowell, Massachusetts, USA
Prettiness Factor: Very, very low. Abandoned buildings. Crackhouses. And probably the first movie where a dumpster plays a key role..
Fake Factor: Nothing fake here. This is Lowell at it’s grittiest. We can only hope things have cleaned up a little. IF not, well, Boston is only 40 miles away.
