If you look at the world of travel now and compare it to ten or so years ago, a lot has changed. Things are way more advanced now than they used to be, and this trend will continue. What we’re interested in is seeing how this trend will continue. Specifically, what will travel look like in five years? Take a look at our ideas down below:
Self-Service At Hotels
As the travel world has advanced, the concept of doing things yourself, or ‘self-service’ has grown. Nowadays, you can check into a flight on your own, and some airports even have self-service systems where you weigh your luggage and a machine prints off the label for you to check that in too. Next, it will be self-service check-ins and check-outs at hotels. You’ll book your room online, then walk into the hotel and scan a barcode on your phone in a machine which checks you in and then activates another barcode on your phone which you touch against the door to your room and use it to unlock it. It’s faster, more convenient, and you don’t have to worry about losing a keycard as the key is your phone.
More Precise & Hi-Tech Airport Parking
One of the main struggles of traveling is finding somewhere to park in an airport. Airport parking lots are massive, and you can waste lots of time driving around trying to find a space. It stresses you out, and can even make you late for a flight. In the future, this isn’t going to be a problem. We’re already seeing things like Park Assist and their Smart Assist technology allowing airports to show travelers exactly where the free parking spaces are through an app. This will develop, and it will soon be easy for someone to pre-book a parking space via an app and just roll up to the airport and slot right in with no stress at all.
One of the major drawbacks of traveling via plane is that you don’t have wifi access on most flights. In the next five years, we’ll start to see more and more commercial airlines fitting their planes with wifi technology. It’s just like with trains, they used to have no wifi and poor cell reception. Now, even local trains have wifi installed for people to use. Soon, you’ll be able to use your wifi devices on planes, meaning you can travel while connecting to people at work or messaging people at home. It will change things for business travelers, and also help calm the nerves of many casual travelers who can stay in contact with the people they love on the ground.
By 2022, travel will look very different to what’s currently out there. There’s definitely going to be an emphasis on mobile technology and making life much easier for people traveling. As time goes on, the whole concept of travel will become so much more convenient, and a lot of stress will be taken away, meaning people can just enjoy going abroad and traveling.
