Semana Santa — Holy Easter Week in Antigua, Guatemala

In my previous post on Semana Santa in Antigua Guatemala I said I would post some night photos of the floral carpets and processions.  So here goes more of the Easter weekend photo marathon .  These were taken on Good Friday of last year, which draws the largest crowds…

    1. Love the photos. And Jill, the live re-enactments are too intense. I’ve seen some when I was still living in the Philippines and I just could not bring myself to watch all of it.

  1. great shots! semana santa, what an amazing time to be in antigua. even though ive spent a lot of time there, ive always missed it. jess told me all about it, sounds (and looks) incredible.

    1. It was very intense at times. You could see that some of the participants were actually in pain, but in a ‘rapture’ sort of way. It was great to see for sure.

  2. These are powerful, Raymond! I wish I could have been there to witness this, luckily, your pics are the next best thing!

  3. I had the chance to visit Antigua a couple weeks ago, just at the beginning of lent. They already had a floral carpet inside one of the churches. I must say that is an impressive work of art!

  4. Cool post! It looks like this was a pretty cool thing to witness. I love the flower carpet – it is so beautiful! I wish the US appreciated flowers more.
