Italy is among the leading tourist destinations in the world. Located in the southern part of Europe, the country is well-known for its beautiful landscapes, art treasures, top-rated cuisine, adoring people and trendy fashions. Italy has so much to offer that you may not have enough time to explore the magnificent land. Here are the top places you can visit in Italy.

Sicily is home to Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe. Located just two miles from the mainland region of Calabria, Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Sicily is an area that includes some smaller isles. Here you can get a chance to hop from one island to another since Aeolian Islands and Aegadian Islands are all nearby.

Verona was made famous by the story of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. Verona is a world heritage site as it has ancient castles and Roman remains. It also has the third largest Roman arena in Italy where you can catch an opera festival. The beautiful Italian lakes like Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, and Lake Garda are accessible from Verona.

Milan is widely known for its classy trends. Milan is a home for fashion and up-market restaurants. The buildings in Milan are architecturally impressive and with a subtle mixture of culture ranging from the old to the modern palaces. In this great city, you will get a chance to visit the Duomo that has an incredible marble facade and the world’s most famous opera house, La Scala.

This area is a home to Pompeii, the town that was buried in 79 A.D. by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The coastline is one of the most magnificent coastlines in the whole of Italy. You can take a boat ride to the island of Capri where you will witness a striking sea cave, the Blue Grotto, covered with a gleaming blue light.

Venice is your place if you are looking for a romantic destination. The city is built on water with the world’s most creative masterpieces, numerous churches, and museums. The grand square Piazza San Marco that has a very impressive basilica is found here.

Rome is a fortress of amazement. You should not leave Italy without touring this spectacular city. Rome has a rich history across twenty centuries and may be considered an open museum. Here in Rome you will see the Pantheon, an ancient temple constructed in 27 B.C. with tall columns getting towards the sky. It has a vast interior and an impressive dome with a center hole that allows the sun to shine through. You will also see the Spanish Steps, Europe’s widest and longest staircase. At the foot of the steps, we have a fountain of bubbles and the attractive Trinità dei Monti church is seen rising at the top of the steps. In the middle of the staircase, you can sit and enjoy a view of the magnificent city. Another place you will regret missing a glimpse is the Vatican City. Here you will witness the stunning St. Peter’s Square. In this city, you may also enter St. Peter’s Basilica and see Michelangelo’s sculpture and other Vatican Museums.

If you intend to take your family for a holiday or your spouse for a romantic trip, you should give Italy some serious consideration. You may have a tough time choosing one of these places in Italy to tour. You cannot travel all these gorgeous places in a day so you may need to a longer stay in the country.
