  1. Thanks for putting this together, Raymond. It’s interesting to see which posts do well on each social site. I think you should do one that excludes StumbleUpon. 😉

    1. Christy, I was surprised to see so many shares from Stumble Upon! I must admit I have the Stumble Upon envy as I never figured out how to get shares from that platform!!

      1. We used to get a lot of shares from there, but stopped using it a couple of years ago because we didn’t see the value in it. If you are getting shares on other platforms, I would continue to focus on those!

    2. Christy, I totally agree! I couldn’t figure out how to sort the columns so that I could see the data other ways… StumbleUpon is a mystery to me too, and I’m shocked how much it contributed to the results!

  2. Thanks so much for including my post about the secret erotic art of Pompeii and Herculaneum. I was fascinated to see how others promoted their articles, and especially how effectively some are using Pinterest!

  3. The tension was building as I was scrolling through the pages, much like it does every time I go through a top 100 travel blog list to see if I am included. Usually this exercise ends in depression, futility, desperation, exasperation, and any other word expressing disappointment when due to some clerical error I am not listed. TONIGHT is different. I will drink in celebration knowing I am 95.

    1. LOL — I know that feeling Ted. That’s actually part of the reason why I created this list. There are a ton of great travel blogs out there that don’t make the cut for some of those other lists, but sometimes, even the little guy strikes content gold, like you did with your article. Good work good sir!

  4. Oh wow, I am so stocked. I must admit I am feeling a little greedy scooping up 5 spots. Congrats to all, and I cant wait to see what happens this year. Thanks for taking the time to collate such a massive task!

  5. Thanks for putting together such a fantastic list! It’s an honor to be in such great company. It’s also really neat to see how everyone does something different to play to their strengths.

  6. Great list! I’m so happy to be part of it! And actually surprised that (as you pointed out) I was on top for G+ and Linkedin! I love these platforms and it clearly shows!

Great reads, a lot about Croatia, that was a nice surprise!

  7. Thanks for pulling this together, Raymond! I know it was a ton of work for you and I really appreciate you including my posts!

Also, I’ve gotta go to the Philippines 🙂

  8. Hey Raymond, that’s amazing! Never thought I’d be at number 1!!!!! Thanks!!!!!

I’ve got a lot of plans to improve the map coming soon!
I have 25 more travel experts who have already ranked countries. I’m also going to include a daily backpacker budget by country.

    Thank again!
    Cheers,
    Leif

  9. I love this post for many reasons. 1 – a great place to find some great content. 2 – looking at how people use social media and 3 – I get to see that the post I submitted came close! :))
I also see you put a lot of work into this. Thank you!

  10. Thanks for the inclusion Raymond! What a great round up of fabulous content. It’s interesting to see what kind of posts work for to encourage sharing and which social networks generate a lot of traffic. I didn’t think I’d make the list so this was a nice surprise.

    1. Thanks Adelina. I found it interesting for me as well — I spend a lot of time focusing on Facebook and Twitter but it appears that StumbleUpon and Pinterest are the top two social platforms for sharing.

  11. Hi Raymond,

    Well done!

I need to give The Blond Abroad props for being mentioned twice on this list. No small accomplishment.

I see big numbers in titles, awesome images and fab branding at play here.

    Great job everybody!

    Ryan

  12. Wow, I love that you compiled a list of the top travel blog posts from last year! One of my favorite things about using social media is seeing pictures of places around the world. My bucket list is filled with places I want to visit and things I want to see and do.
What factors were considered when choosing the best countries for backpacking? I’ve used travel services in the past to book my trips, but I have never used hostiles or slept on the beach like so many do. Is it pretty safe to backpack in most of the countries you outlined on the map?

    1. Hi Haley — Leif at The Runaway Guide compiled the Best Countries for Backpacking Map. If you click through to the post he goes into some pretty great detail about how he came up with the numbers. 🙂

    1. Great list… Congratulations all of you… Thanks for putting together such a fantastic list! It’s an honor to be in such great company. It’s also really neat to see how everyone does something different to play to their strengths. All of the tips above are great,,,
