The Greater Scheme Theme Park in Orlando

The Face of Jesus statue is located at the entrance to the Holy Land Experience Biblical Theme Park in Orlando, Florida.

So basically, Jesus is watching over the parking lot.

The 3-D effect of the marble statue gives the illusion that the eyes of Jesus are continuously following you, or as the Holy Land Experience park information sign suggests “continuously loving you” where ever you go. Except perhaps if you go behind the statue. Jesus does not have eyes in the back of his head, at least not in this case.

Still, the faithful can take comfort in the fact that the Lord has got an eye on their wheels. And they can be thankful the Holy Land has free parking for the masses – a rarity for any theme park in Orlando.

At 35 bucks a pop for adults for a full day pass, the Holy Land Experience is one of the cheapest theme parks in town. And since they do accept plastic, if you have one of those credit cards with cash back, it’s almost like the Holy Land is giving you money. Now that’s a sweet deal. Almost like charity really.

Once inside the theme park, there are plenty of other ways to part with your money — there are gift shops and snack bars galore. And they serve up a lot more than just fishes and loaves. But I have to say prices are extremely reasonable when compared to the merchandise and food at other Orlando theme parks. And since the Holy Land Experience is located in Florida, and not someplace like, let’s say, the actual Holy Land, you don’t need to worry about using credit cards without foreign transaction fees. Unless of course you’re from someplace else. Like the actual Holy Land.

Face of Jesus — What are your thoughts?

While much more tasteful than the Leaping Lord statue in Manado, Indonesia, and heaps more tasteful than those 3-D hologram Last Supper photos you see around, the Face of Jesus statue does have a ‘he knows when you are sleeping, he knows when you’re awake” kinda vibe to it.

What’s your verdict? Is the Face of Jesus statue cool or creepy?

My trip to Florida was sponsored by Aeroplan, and The Holy Land Experience provided me with a complimentary ticket to the theme park in Orlando, but as always, the views expressed are my own — I do solemnly swear.

  1. I stared at it for a few seconds and all of a sudden felt a bit weird. Forgive me Father for I have sinned 😐

  2. Great subject matter for TPThursday. Not sure about the eyes though. I would think they’d never have a carjacking or robbery in that parking lot! I am looking forward to the rest of the story you tell about the insider of the park.

  3. Inspiration for Bette Midler’s “From A Distance”?
My vote is scary Santa, or maybe the reason Santa IS so scary. If this guy made me hand out millions of presents on his birthday, I would be a frazzled mess who packed a flask in my red jacket too. Just sayin’…

  4. Kinda cool as art but a little bit creepy. Although as a parent, this could work wonders into ensuring kids are in their best behavior in the park since the Lord is watching =) I was curious about this theme park so I’m looking forward to your posts.

  5. The crusades should have carried a banner like this, if they weren’t already scary enough. Or maybe the Spanish Inquisition… but nobody would expect that.

  6. Well, you can forget making out in the back seat in that parking lot. Fumbling with a bra strap while those eyes watch you from just over the Honda on the next row of cars. No thanks!

  7. My friend has a miniature of the Face of Jesus Statue. It’s about 6 inches tall.
I would like to purchase some of these as I think it’s really incredible, but cannot find it anywhere online. Please advise if you know where this might be purchased. Thanks and God Bless.

    1. Hi Douglas — I have searched everywhere online for it, even the Holy Land Experience online store, to no avail. I can’t find it anywhere. Perhaps if you contacted them through their website they would be able to let you know if they have it in their gift shop.

      Thanks for stopping by!
