Travel Photo of the Week — The Head of Ramses II, Luxor Egypt

Posted by - June 2, 2011 | Category: Africa, Egypt, Escapes

They say that everything’s bigger in Texas, but honestly, everything is bigger in Egypt.  To the right below is the fallen head of Pharoah Ramses II at the aptly named Ramesseum in Luxor, Egypt.

The statue itself would have been 17.3 metres high, and would have weighed up to 1000 tonnes.  Yep, that’s wee little 6 foot 3 me standing next to it.

  1. Great shot. I was totally amazed at how large Egyptian statues really are. Seeing them in photos really doesn’t prepare a person for their size.

Thanks for posting to Travel Photo Thursday.

    1. I would love to go back. I have a couple of friends that are heading there next month. Apparently lots of deals to be had what with all the unrest lately…
