Where is Jiuzhaigou

Located in the northern Sichuan Province, China, Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park is about 500km away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, 300km away from Mianyang that the second largest city in Sichuan and 740km away from Xi’an which is the capital of Shaanxi Province.

The average altitude of Jiuzhaigou is around 2800m and the highest point reaches 3100m in the remote mountainous area of Sichuan where the climate is hugely different from the climate in Sichuan basin.

Visiting Magnificent Scenery Spots

There are several scenery spots that you should never miss. The Nuorilang Waterfall, situated at the center of the “Y” shape of Jiuzhaigou, is the most popular waterfall which has a huge level different of 20m with a width of 300m. The water falls from a 2325m high dyke, foams, roars, and sends up a mist continuously, which creates perpetual rainbows under the sunshine now and then.

The Five Flower Lake is the most magical lake in Jiuzhaigou. Seeing from the far place, the lakes are green. However, when you stand at the bank of the lake, the water slowly turns to yellow, blue, and even orange.

Another splendid waterfall is the Pearl Beach Shoal Waterfall at which the TV show Journey to The West was filmed.

Trek in Jiuzhaigou

It is not realistic to trek all the way through Jiuzhaigou National Park, but tourists can trek to nearby scenery spots as well as take the tour bus to further sites of interest. The gallery roads are all well-built, and you can find the toilets and other signs all the way. It is a good way to enjoy the charming view slowly by hiking in Jiuzhaigou Valley.

Best Time to Visit Jiuzhaigou

Compared with winter, it’s more lively, and compared with spring, it’s more splendid, and compared with summer, Jiuzhaigou is more colorful. In autumn, the mountains turn into yellow and red and even purple, the water is ever more clean and quiet, and the sky is high.

The landscape of Jiuzhaigou is consisting of high-altitude karsts shaped by hydrological movements. The bottoms of these lakes in Jiuzhaigou are visible more than 10-meter depth because of the high concentration of calcium carbonate, which is the reason that the lakes are extremely clear and penetrable. Different lakes have different colors, and even within one lake, there could be 5 colors, which is affected by the surroundings, depths, residues and so on. The sunshine passes through the lake water, light up the lake bottom, and cut the water into pieces like jelly.

In Early October, the weather is just like in September, the average daily low temperature is 11°C and the highest is 25°C. During this month, the temperature keeps going down. The Weather in late autumn is cool that the average temperature is about 12°C with the highest reached 18°C when the lowest is only 6°C. Although the temperature is low, the UV level is not low.

How to Get to Jiuzhaigou

Get to Jiuzhaigou by Plane

Flying from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou is the fastest way to arrive at Jiuzhaigou.

The ticket price is about 1500 RMB and the flights are frequent. Even in winter, the slack season, there are 10 flights flying to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu, which is rare in any other cities.

The Jiuzhaigou-Huanglong Airports is located at 100km away from Jiuzhaigou, which takes you 1 hour to get there after you arrived.

You can take the shuttle bus to Jiuzhaigou National Park or take the taxi. The first way only costs 50 RMB but taking the taxi is about 200 RMB.

Get to Jiuzhaigou by Bus

After arriving at Chengdu, you can go to the Chadianzi Bus Station or Xinnanmen Bus Station to take the bus to Jiuzhaigou. The ticket price varies from 160-260 RMB according to the level of comfortable. It would take you 9-10 hours, but the views along the way are all breath-taking charming.
